Boron in Turkey
Turkey is the biggest boron source in the world and possesses about 73 percent of total world’s borate reserves. Products having boron in their content are generally called borates.
By Turkish laws and legislations, Eti Maden Isletmeleri Genel Mudurlugu (Eti Maden) is the sole entity who can mine, process and export borate products in Turkey.
Eti Maden is a wholly state owned enterprise. In 1935, with the directions of founder of modern Turkish Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk; the company was established with the name of Etibank to utilize the natural resources of Turkey. Etibank’s early mission was to pioneer utilization of the country’s natural resources when the private investors did not have enough capital and know how.
After years of transformation, changing its name to Eti Maden, the company innovated itself and today it is a leading organization specialized on borate mining and refining industry. Eti Maden is the biggest borate producer and since 2006 market leader in the world.
Eti Maden has borate mines and production facilities in various parts of Turkey. Boron minerals in Turkey are tincal, colemanite and ulexite.
Locations of the reserves are:
- Tincal: Eskisehir - Kirka.
- Colemanite: Kutahya - Emet, Balikesir - Bigadic and Bursa - Kestelek.
- Ulexite: Balikesir - Bigadic as well as some in Bursa - Kestelek.
Based on long lasting relations with Tradebor’s owners and directors, Eti Maden and Etimine USA had appointed Tradebor as its exclusive agent for sale and marketing of its borate products in South America market.
